Youth Day Celebration by Conservation Education clubs of Takamanda National Park

The celebration of Youth Day (Cameroon) in Mamfe was marked by a vibrant and impactful participation of Conservation Education Clubs from five schools connected to Takamanda National Park. The event brought together 100 enthusiastic club members, with each school represented by 20 students who proudly took part in the ceremonial march past. The five schools which partook in the celebrations were Government High School Mamfe, Government Bilingual High School Mamfe, DONSTECA Mamfe and Enonchong Memorial College, Besongabang.

Accompanying the students were 10 process facilitators—dedicated teachers selected from the participating schools, two per institution—who played a key role in guiding and coordinating the activities. The event was further honored by the presence of park staff led by the Head of the Collaborative Management Unit, highlighting the importance of youth engagement in conservation efforts.

Dressed in branded T-shirts and carrying banners and flyers, the students marched with pride under the powerful slogan: “Youths say no to poaching, encroachment, and ebony exploitation in Takamanda National Park.” This message served as a strong call for environmental stewardship and awareness against illegal activities threatening biodiversity.

Following the march past, participants gathered at the Divisional Delegation of Forestry and Wildlife in Manyu, where refreshments were served and prizes awarded. The celebration not only showcased youthful energy but also reinforced the critical role of education in promoting sustainable conservation practices in mitigating illegal activities in the park.
